This big beautiful country style colonial home in Guilford CT needed a little something-something to welcome it’s soon to be new owners. The sellers opted for just a partial home staging so we focused on welcoming the new buyers with a lovely entry and soothing home office space.
Staging, as with all interior design, is about accentuating the room’s best features. We wanted the new buyers to feel warm, welcomed and wowed! So… I played up the casual country elegance of this home by adding a charming maple chest with crystal knobs and accessorizing with mercury glass, crystal, floral decor… The dance between the formal and the casual home decor accessories work to give a casual country elegance to these spaces which correlate with the rest of the home and makes you want to stay awhile.
Whenever I design, I plan with a party in mind and from a guest’s perspective (hmm, I guess I’m a party girl at heart 😀 ) so I love adding a settee or a chair or two in a foyer so guests can have a little retreat for a private chat or wait comfortably while their car is warming up or while waiting for their ride… or even to give the next “appointment” a place to wait outside the home office while you finish your call. What happens if you’re not much of an entertainer? Well then, you will love a place to sit and put on your boots or just a pretty little nook. I think of everything don’t I 😉 ?
Speaking of the home office…I just loved the view of the trees from the lovely picture window in the office. It’s the focal point and it screamed”window seat” to me. (bet it’s stunning in Autumn!) It wasn’t in the budget to create an actual window seat, but by framing the view with drapery and bookcases with a seat height credenza, it’s enough to plant the seed for the buyers. Once in, they could easily have one built in just by adding two bookcases with a built in seat and a cushion between. (I did this in my home, best seat in the house!). We worked with the homeowners draperies and re-hung them, added a casual trestle desk and comfortable seating. The wicker accessories and books keep the space from being too fussy.
